Rewarding Quality and Innovation within Cancer Care


Call for Nominations 2018

The call for applications for the 2018 Quality and Innovation Awards is now CLOSED. We thank everyone for their interest and participation.

A Quality and Innovation Award Review Committee will be assembled to review the applications. Applicants will be informed via email of the decision mid-March. Winners and honourable mentions will be publically announced following the 12th annual Quality and Innovation Awards ceremony, held on May 10th, 2018.

The Awards ceremony is hosted by the Cancer Quality Council of Ontario (CQCO) in partnership with Cancer Care Ontario (CCO).

The Quality and Innovation Awards recognize significant contributions to quality and innovation in the delivery of cancer care and was established to encourage and reward the development of quality and innovative initiatives aimed at enhancing and improving the performance of cancer care in Ontario. The Awards ceremony is hosted by the Cancer Quality Council of Ontario (CQCO) in partnership with Cancer Care Ontario (CCO). We welcome applications from any institution/practice/organization providing cancer prevention activities and/or care for individuals being treated or living with cancer across Ontario.

CQCO’s framework for defining and measuring quality includes the following dimensions and outcomes:

  • Increases safety
  • Improves effectiveness
  • Improves accessibility
  • Improves responsiveness to patients/families and person-centredness
  • Addresses an equity imbalance
  • Improves integration and/or transitions of care
  • Increases efficiency

Innovation, in the context of the Quality and Innovation Awards, refers to new and unique processes, products, or organizations which are bold, experimental and far-reaching. The goal of innovation should be an improvement in the process, organization or product.

Selection Criteria

Quality Award

The Quality Award will be presented to a program or initiative(s) which best demonstrates improved outcomes, sustainability, economic benefits, and evidence of meaningful impact on patients/families, resources and processes.

Quality initiatives must show measurable evidence of their improvement to outcomes.

Innovation Award

The Innovation Award will be presented to a program or initiative(s) which best demonstrates originality and boldness, improved outcomes, sustainability, economic benefits, a meaningful impact on patients/families, resources and processes.

Innovative initiatives must show a plan for evaluation or measurable evidence of their improvement to outcomes.
